Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had known the girl for about a year, as both used to visit the same library. However, after she stopped speaking to him about two weeks ago, he allegedly decided to shoot her.

CCTV footage from the area shows that the accused tried to shoot her in the head from close range but missed. The incident occurred between 5:00 and 5:30 pm. The suspect, who had been waiting outside the library, opened fire at the girl, discarded a country-made pistol at the scene and fled on a motorcycle. The weapon was later recovered by the police.

Based on the victim’s statement, an FIR was registered on Monday night.

A senior police officer said the girl had identified the suspect, who is older than her and had been harassing her since she stopped communicating with him. “We will apprehend him soon,” the officer added.

Further investigation is underway.
